Tajikistan Calls for Accelerated Trade Digitalization in Central Asia

DUSHANBE - The 21st meeting of the Working Group on Trade of the United Nations Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA) was held in Tajikistan as part of Paperless Trade Week. The event was chaired by Akhliddin Nuriddinzoda, Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic, Avesta.tj reports.

He noted that countries in the region are demonstrating steady progress in developing trade connectivity, digitalizing data exchange, and improving transport corridors in the Trans-Caspian region. He also noted positive dynamics in strengthening transport and energy links, developing sustainable trade, innovation, and promoting circular economy principles.

Delegations from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan participated in the meeting. The parties presented information on the implementation of the SPECA Working Group Roadmap for 2025–2026 and discussed current achievements in regional trade, as well as prospects for expanding economic cooperation.

Representatives of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) presented initiatives to develop digital trade, simplify procedures, and implement modern data exchange systems between countries.

Summing up, Akhliddin Nuriddinzoda emphasized the need to intensify efforts by member states and international partners to eliminate non-tariff barriers, integrate electronic systems and standards, expedite trade procedures, and further implement digital solutions in regional trade.
