Tajikistan and the Qatar Development Fund have signed an agreement for a $50 million concessional loan to finance the construction of the Rogun Hydropower Plant, Avesta.tj reports.
The signing ceremony took place in Dushanbe and was attended by Tajik Finance Minister Fayziddin Sattor Kahkhorzoda and Fahad Hamad Al-Sulaiti, CEO of the Qatar Development Fund, according to the Tajik Ministry of Finance.
The funds will be used to continue construction of the Rogun HPP, a key project aimed at ensuring the country's energy security. The plant is designed to increase electricity production for domestic consumption and expand regional export capacity.
"The implementation of this agreement will be a significant step toward strengthening Tajikistan's national energy security and sustainable development," the Tajik Finance Ministry emphasized.
During the talks, the parties also discussed expanding bilateral cooperation and the potential for the Qatar Development Fund to participate in other priority projects in the country.
The construction of the Rogun HPP, the largest hydropower project in Central Asia, remains a strategic priority for the Tajik government.
