As part of the state visit of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic to Tajikistan, Tajikistan’s Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Zavqizoda Zavqi Amin, met with Kyrgyzstan’s Minister of Economy and Commerce, Bakyt Sydykov, Avesta.tj reports.
Zavqizoda highlighted that thanks to the consistent and pragmatic policies of President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan and President Sadyr Japarov of Kyrgyzstan, bilateral relations have reached a new level, creating favorable conditions for expanding economic and trade cooperation.
During the talks, the two sides reviewed the current state of economic ties and expressed their readiness to further strengthen them. Special attention was given to the development of a Roadmap aimed at boosting mutual trade to $500 million in the medium term.
The Roadmap will include measures to stimulate the export and import of priority goods, simplify trade procedures, and enhance logistics, transit, e-commerce, and the digitalization of trade processes. The active use of existing trade and economic corridors is also planned.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining active and mutually beneficial cooperation aimed at enhancing economic potential and fostering good-neighborly relations between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.
Following a sharp decline in trade due to border tensions, bilateral trade had fallen below $1 million. However, after the signing of a bilateral agreement in 2024, trade volumes increased fifteenfold. This momentum now opens broad opportunities for further expanding bilateral trade.
