DUSHANBE – Tajikistan's Minister of Energy and Water Resources, Daler Jumaa, held a meeting with Gurdeep Singh, Managing Director of NTPC Limited, one of India's largest energy companies. The talks took place on the sidelines of the Bharat Electricity Summit 2026 international forum in New Delhi, according to a press release from Tajikistan's Ministry of Energy and Water Resources, Avesta.tj reports.

The parties focused on expanding bilateral cooperation in the energy sector. They explored potential collaboration across several priority areas:

  • Power generation and transmission – modernization of existing facilities and construction of new generating capacity;
  • Investment attraction – participation of Indian capital in Tajikistan's energy projects;
  • Joint project implementation – infrastructure development and cross-border energy initiatives.

NTPC Limited ranks among the largest electricity producers not only in India but across South Asia. The company brings extensive experience in implementing projects across multiple energy segments:

  • Coal and gas-fired generation;
  • Hydropower;
  • Renewable energy sources (RES) – solar and wind power.

"The parties emphasized the importance of leveraging NTPC Limited's advanced expertise in implementing large-scale energy projects, introducing innovative technologies, and enhancing energy efficiency in the Republic of Tajikistan," the ministry's statement notes.

Tajikistan is actively developing its hydropower potential, with the Rogun Hydropower Plant remaining the flagship project. Simultaneously, the country aims to diversify its energy mix through solar and wind farms while modernizing electricity transmission systems to enable exports to neighboring states.

Cooperation with Indian partners could accelerate these plans, particularly in deploying "green" technologies and securing long-term financing.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue dialogue at the expert level to develop concrete mechanisms for collaboration. Further steps are expected to be coordinated through specialized working groups from both countries.
