Tajik Minister of Energy and Water Resources Daler Juma held talks with Abdulhak Hamkor, Executive Director of the Afghan state-owned energy company DABS, Avesta.tj reported.

The meeting focused on the progress of construction on the Afghan section of the CASA-1000 regional energy bridge and preparations for the project's Intergovernmental Council meeting, which will be held in early October 2026 in Kyrgyzstan.

Currently, infrastructure work in Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Pakistan has been fully completed. The only link under construction is the section in Afghanistan, with final commissioning scheduled for spring 2027. The talks confirmed the alignment of Dushanbe and Kabul in synchronizing commissioning activities.

The meeting between the leadership of the Tajik Ministry of Energy and DABS underscores the strategic importance of the CASA-1000 project for the formation of a unified energy market in Central and South Asia. The completion of construction in Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Pakistan demonstrates the high level of readiness of the main infrastructure, transforming the Afghan transit corridor into the final element of the entire system.

Reaching the final stage by spring 2027 will allow Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan to commercialize their summer hydropower surpluses, while Pakistan will partially reduce its seasonal power deficit.

Furthermore, sustained dialogue with Kabul on CASA-1000 serves as a practical mechanism for engaging Afghanistan in regional economic cooperation chains, which is an important factor in long-term stability along the southern borders of Central Asia.
