Tajik researchers achieved notable success at the International Conference on Genetics, Biotechnology, and Plant Breeding held in Novosibirsk from July 2 to 5, according to Asiaplus.tj.
Scientists from the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan and Tajik State Pedagogical University showcased their latest innovations. Professor Kurbonali Partoev introduced new drought-resistant potato varieties capable of yielding up to 45 tons per hectare.
“This is especially important for Tajikistan, where potatoes are a dietary staple,” the professor noted.
Safarmadi Mirzoali, a lecturer, presented research on Jerusalem artichoke—a hardy crop with yields of up to 30 tons per hectare and rich in valuable inulin.
“This root vegetable is beneficial for medicine, nutrition, and even biofuel production,” he explained.
Researcher Bakhtovar Sattorov delivered a presentation on early-maturing, drought-resistant wheat varieties adapted to Tajikistan’s climate.
“Such developments are crucial for food security amid climate change,” he emphasized.
All Tajik participants received international certificates, and their work attracted strong interest among the 400 scientists from 17 countries in attendance. According to Professor Partoev, these research efforts contribute to addressing global agricultural challenges.
