The international film Fish on the Hook, a co-production between Tajikistan, Russia, and Iran, is set to be submitted for screening at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. This was announced by Mahmadsaid Shohiyon, Director of the Tajikfilm studio, during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), according to TASS.

Shohiyon emphasized that the film has already received recognition, having won the Grand Prix at the 2024 Toji Somon National Film Awards in Dushanbe. The screenplay was written by Valery Akhadov, an honored Russian filmmaker, while the film was directed by Mukhiddin Muzaffar.
Plot Summary:
Fish on the Hook (Mohi dar shast) tells the story of Daler, a 10-year-old orphanage student who longs to reunite with his mother. During summer break, he unexpectedly hears from her. The husband of one of the caregivers, a driver named Samad, volunteers to accompany Daler on a journey across Tajikistan in search of his mother — a touching road movie that captures emotional depth and scenic landscapes.
The SPIEF 2025 is being held from June 18 to 21, under the theme “Shared Values as the Foundation for Growth in a Multipolar World.”
