In Tajikistan, the number of government agencies issuing permits has been reduced from 34 to 13, and the number of regulatory and inspection bodies has been reduced from 31 to 23. This was announced by Sulton Rahimzoda, Chairman of the State Investment Committee, Asiaplus.tj reports.
At the same time, the list of permits for certain types of businesses is being revised. As of July 1, 2026, there were 396,900 business entities in the country—a 4.2% increase from the previous year. From January to June, 24,800 new entities were created.
The reduction of bureaucratic procedures is facilitating the expansion of entrepreneurial activity, but the scale of business in Tajikistan still lags behind that of neighboring Kyrgyzstan. As of April 1, 2026, there were 823,500 businesses operating in Kyrgyzstan, a 2.2% increase from the previous year.
The gap is partly explained by differences in the accounting structure and the significant role of individual entrepreneurship in both countries. For Tajikistan, further streamlining of permitting procedures could stimulate growth in the number of legal entities, investments, and manufacturing enterprises. Kyrgyzstan, in turn, has a larger entrepreneurial base but also faces the challenge of converting a large number of entities into more productive and formalized companies.
