Regional Quartet Urges Pragmatic International Engagement With Afghanistan

Russia, China, Iran and Pakistan on Thursday called for deeper and more pragmatic international engagement with Afghanistan, stressing that constructive cooperation with Kabul is essential for consolidating Afghan statehood and ensuring wider regional stability, Ariananews.af reports.

Meeting on the sidelines of the 80th UN General Assembly in New York, officials from the four nations – known as the regional quartet – held their fourth ministerial session on Afghan affairs.

In their discussions, the ministers underscored a shared vision of Afghanistan as an independent and peaceful state, free from terrorism, war and drugs, Russian foreign ministry said in a statement.

“They emphasised the pressing need for enhanced constructive and pragmatic engagement by the international community with Kabul to foster the consolidation of Afghan statehood and reinforce regional and global stability,” according to the statement.
