Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov delivered a sharp critique of double standards in international politics at the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, his press service reported.
Departing from a pre-written diplomatic speech, Japarov argued that the global community prioritizes conflicts based on geopolitical interests while ignoring the suffering of millions in Palestine, Ukraine, Sudan, and Syria.
He criticized Western sanctions, highlighting what he called a paradox: the EU trades $141 billion with Russia, while the UK, which sanctioned two Kyrgyz banks, maintains $2.2 billion in trade. Japarov stressed that Kyrgyzstan would not abandon cooperation with Russia, vital for its economy, and demanded the lifting of restrictions on its banks.
As a positive example, he pointed to Central Asia, where Kyrgyzstan peacefully resolved border disputes with Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. He called for redirecting $3 trillion in annual global military spending toward humanitarian and environmental challenges, announcing the Bishkek+25 Summit on sustainable mountain development in 2027. Kyrgyzstan has also put forward its candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for 2027–2028.
