President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov held official talks with Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orbán on May 21 as part of his working visit to Hungary, according to official Kyrgyz sources.
The meeting began with an official welcome ceremony at the Hungarian Prime Minister’s Office, including a handshake and a joint photo session. The leaders then proceeded to extended negotiations.
During the talks, a wide range of issues concerning bilateral cooperation were discussed, including economic ties, investment, infrastructure development, and prospects for strengthening strategic partnership.
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán warmly welcomed President Japarov, emphasizing that strong allied and friendly relations are essential for sustainable political and economic cooperation between Hungary and Kyrgyzstan. He praised the positive transformations and achievements of Kyrgyzstan in recent years and congratulated President Japarov on the country's progress.
Orbán commended the effective operation of the Kyrgyz-Hungarian Development Fund and stressed the importance of directing its resources toward strategic projects. Despite Kyrgyzstan’s complex geography, he noted the country’s steady growth and increasing regional influence. The Prime Minister confirmed Hungary’s readiness to explore promising joint initiatives and invest in key sectors of the Kyrgyz economy.
President Japarov, in turn, expressed appreciation for the growing intergovernmental ties and expansion of trade and economic cooperation. He noted that bilateral trade between the two countries has doubled over the past five years.
The President of Kyrgyzstan expressed special gratitude to the Hungarian side for its decision to increase the authorized capital of the Kyrgyz-Hungarian Development Fund to $50 million, opening up new opportunities for joint projects.
President Japarov also underscored the importance of Hungary’s participation in developing transport corridors linking Europe and Central Asia, expressing interest in Hungary’s experience in logistics and advanced technologies. He reaffirmed Kyrgyzstan’s commitment to supporting Hungarian investors and facilitating the implementation of their initiatives.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their intention to strengthen strategic partnership and deepen fraternal relations between Kyrgyzstan and Hungary.
Kyrgyzstan and Hungary have close ties within the Organization of Turkic States, as Kyrgyzstan has been a full member of the organization since the establishment of the Turkic Council in 2009, and Hungary has been an observer since late 2018 and can request full membership.
The President of Uzbekistan, which is also a member of the OTC, also arrived in Hungary.
