The Parliament of Kyrgyzstan has voted to dissolve itself, the press service of the legislature announced. The initiative was supported by 84 out of 89 lawmakers present.

The proposal came from a group of MPs, who argued that it was necessary to update the electoral system and avoid organizational complications. Under the Constitution, parliamentary elections were scheduled for November 2026, followed by presidential elections in January 2027. Such a tight timeline, they noted, could result in extra costs and place heavy pressure on the Central Election Commission.

“The gap between the parliamentary and presidential elections is too narrow. To strengthen the political system, it was proposed that parliament step down early,” said MP Ulan Primov.

The parliament’s press service stressed that the decision is voluntary, lawful, and aimed at maintaining political stability and advancing democratic processes. The upcoming elections will renew the composition of the Jogorku Kenesh and improve the efficiency of state institutions.

According to the Constitutional Law of the Kyrgyz Republic “On the Elections of Deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh,” new parliamentary elections must be held within 60 days of the presidential decree setting the election date. Extraordinary elections to the Jogorku Kenesh are expected to take place in early November this year.
