Kyrgyzstan ranked 117th in the Human Development Index (HDI) among 193 countries and territories, according to a new UN Development Programme report published on May 6, 2025. The country’s index score was 0.720, placing it in the category of nations with a high level of human development. This is noted in the UNDP report (undp.com/kyrgyzstan).
The biggest surprise in the ranking was that Kyrgyzstan topped the global list for public trust in artificial intelligence. According to UN data, 96% of citizens recognize the usefulness of AI - almost twice the global average of 56%.
Experts link this to the active development of digital technologies in the country: Kyrgyzstan ranks 83rd in the world for e-government, its best result in the past decade. A young, tech-savvy population and the successful introduction of online services in government, banking, and other sectors have strengthened trust in innovation.
According to the report, the average life expectancy in Kyrgyzstan is about 71 years, the mean years of schooling is 12.1 years, and the expected years of schooling for the new generation is 14.7 years. The gross national income per capita (PPP) is estimated at $4,150.
For comparison, Uzbekistan ranked 106th in previous reports, also in the category of countries with a high level of development.
The UN emphasizes that Kyrgyzstan’s high level of trust in AI could become a competitive advantage in the era of digital transformation. However, the country will need to further develop its technological infrastructure, educational programs, and regulatory system to turn public trust into tangible economic and social benefits.
