Kyrgyzstan will allocate 5 billion soms (over $57 million) from the national budget to develop the country’s irrigation system. The funds will support the implementation of ten major investment projects in the sector, announced Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture Bakyt Torobaev during a working visit to the Jalal-Abad region, where he reviewed the progress of ongoing irrigation initiatives, Economist.kg reports.
Torobaev inspected the condition of sites slated for construction as part of efforts to expand irrigation infrastructure in the region. In particular, he visited water supply systems in Suzak and Nooken districts, as well as the Chon-Nooken Canal.
He also emphasized the need to adapt agricultural policy to climate change, particularly through revising crop structures and adopting water-saving technologies.
Following an on-site meeting of the ministry, it was decided to finalize the design and cost-estimate documentation as soon as possible, determine the required resources, and begin construction work without delay.
