On the sidelines of the annual meeting of the Islamic Development Bank Board of Governors in Algiers, First Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan, Daniyar Amangeldiev, held bilateral meetings with senior officials from the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) and the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, Economist.kg reports.
According to the Cabinet’s press service, the discussions focused on strengthening cooperation and attracting investments into major infrastructure projects in Kyrgyzstan.
During meetings with OFID Director-General Abdulhamid Alkhalifa and Abdullah Al-Musaibih, Director of Operations at the Kuwait Fund, the sides reviewed ongoing cooperation and explored opportunities for expanding their partnership. Special attention was given to the implementation of the Kambar-Ata-1 Hydropower Plant project.
“Kyrgyzstan views OFID and the Kuwait Fund as key partners in delivering priority development initiatives,” Amangeldiev stated. He expressed appreciation for their continued support in infrastructure development and proposed their involvement in financing the Kambar-Ata-1 HPP, emphasizing its significance for regional energy security and the transition to a green economy in Central Asia.
Kyrgyz representatives presented updates on the preparation of the feasibility study, environmental impact assessment, and progress in drafting an intergovernmental agreement between Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan. The Kyrgyz side expressed readiness to provide additional data to support a thorough investment assessment.
Beyond energy, the meetings also covered potential cooperation in clean water supply and affordable housing. Amangeldiev highlighted national programs aimed at improving living standards and developing social infrastructure.
The parties agreed to hold expert-level consultations to examine specific projects and financing mechanisms in detail. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continued coordination and information exchange to advance shared development goals.
