President Sadyr Japarov has signed a decree initiating Kyrgyzstan’s first pilot project on the use of non-geostationary satellite systems, the presidential press service reports.
The project will run from October 6, 2025, to October 5, 2026. Its main goal is to bridge the digital divide and provide internet access to remote regions where traditional connectivity is not feasible.
All international satellite internet providers meeting the decree’s requirements will be able to participate. This approach is expected to foster competition, test diverse technological solutions, identify legal barriers, and lay the groundwork for nationwide adoption.
Upon completion, government agencies will submit a report to the country’s leadership with assessments and recommendations for the future development of satellite internet in Kyrgyzstan.
According to the press service, access to high-speed internet in remote areas will help advance education, healthcare, digital public services, and entrepreneurship, significantly improving the quality of life.
