Kyrgyzstan is looking to attract British investment, particularly in its mining sector - one of the key topics discussed during a recent meeting between Kyrgyz Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Ulan Jusupov, and Lord John Alderdice, the UK’s Trade Envoy for Central Asia. The meeting took place in London, as reported by Akchabar.kg.
Ambassador Jusupov and Lord Alderdice explored ways to expand trade and investment between the two countries. The Kyrgyz ambassador emphasized his country’s interest in British capital and technology to help modernize and develop Kyrgyzstan’s mining industry.
In addition to mining, Kyrgyzstan is seeking investors for green energy initiatives - particularly the construction of new hydropower plants - alongside transportation infrastructure and agriculture.
Jusupov briefed the UK official on ongoing reforms in Kyrgyzstan, including tax and customs simplification, the digitalization of the economy, strong government support for business, and consistent GDP growth. He also highlighted major infrastructure projects, such as the planned China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway, and the benefits of Kyrgyzstan's participation in the UK's Developing Countries Trading Scheme (DCTS), which simplifies exports to the UK.
Lord Alderdice, responsible for promoting UK business in the region, welcomed the dialogue and expressed his readiness to support the strengthening of economic ties between Kyrgyzstan and the United Kingdom.
