Kyrgyzstan’s healthcare system has undergone significant changes over the past five years, according to Dayyrbek Orunbekov, head of the Information Policy Department of the Presidential Administration. His comments were published on his official social media page, reports 24.kg.

He noted that while the COVID-19 pandemic posed serious challenges, it also provided valuable lessons that accelerated medical sector reforms. As a result, government spending on healthcare has grown substantially:

  • 26.3 billion soms (over $300 million) in 2021,
  • 42 billion soms ($480 million) in 2024,
  • and 49.6 billion soms ($557 million) budgeted for 2025.

“This reflects the government's goal to ensure every citizen has access to affordable, high-quality medical care,” Orunbekov stated.

In 2025 alone, 32 new healthcare facilities are under construction across the country. The Jalal-Abad region leads with nine projects, followed by Osh (six) and Bishkek (five).

Authorities say they plan to continue modernizing the healthcare sector through construction, renovation, and better equipment for hospitals and clinics nationwide.

As of early 2025, Kyrgyzstan's population surpassed 7.2 million, with GDP reaching $17.1 billion.
