Kyrgyzstan’s industrial output reached 437.1 billion soms ($4.995 billion) from January to August 2025 — an 11.5% year-on-year increase, Akchabar.kg reports. Stripping out gold mining, growth soars to an impressive 21.4%, signaling a robust diversification of the economy and strengthening of its manufacturing base.

Pharmaceuticals: The New Engine of Growth

The standout performer is the pharmaceutical sector, where production of medicines surged 2.2 times — fueled by the expansion of modern, internationally certified manufacturing facilities in Bishkek.

Three major GMP-compliant plants now anchor the capital’s pharmaceutical hub:

  • Pharmasi Kyrgyzstan — Launched in 2023 with Turkish investment, it produces antibiotics, analgesics, and vitamins with annual capacity of 500 million packs.
  • MedPharm Bishkek — A joint venture with Indian partners specializing in cardiovascular and endocrine medications. Total investment: $45 million.
  • Apteka Natsii (Nation’s Pharmacy) — The country’s first fully domestic plant, established under a state import-substitution program. It supplies essential medicines at preferential prices for public procurement.

These facilities are not only reducing Kyrgyzstan’s reliance on imported drugs but are also exporting to Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan — building a new regional export corridor in Central Asia’s healthcare sector.
