Kyrgyzstan continues to strengthen its position as one of the most dynamic economies in Central Asia, focusing on supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). According to government data, 20 billion soms ($228.6 million) were allocated for the development of this sector in the first half of 2026, making it one of the largest state business support programs in the country. This was announced by Daniyar Amangeldiev, First Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan, at the opening of the International Industrial and Investment Expo of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Member States on June 25, 2026.
Small and medium-sized businesses play a key role in the national economy. This sector provides a significant share of employment, contributes to regional development, stimulates domestic demand, and creates a competitive environment. Given the limited domestic market, SMEs serve as an important driver of economic diversification, reducing its dependence on specific industries and external factors.
The allocation of significant financial resources to support entrepreneurs demonstrates the state's commitment to creating favorable conditions for expanding production, introducing innovation, and increasing the export potential of domestic companies. Expanding access to concessional financing, subsidy mechanisms, and joint investment funds allows businesses to more actively implement new projects and increase production volumes.
Large-scale investments in energy infrastructure, including the construction of hydroelectric and solar power plants, are an additional driver of economic growth. The implementation of such projects contributes to the country's energy security and creates new opportunities for industrial development.
Ensuring stability at state borders is also crucial for the investment climate. Reducing geopolitical risks increases Kyrgyzstan's attractiveness to foreign investors and facilitates the expansion of business activity.
Taken together, these measures form the foundation for sustainable economic growth, and the development of small and medium-sized businesses remains one of the key tools for enhancing the competitiveness of the Kyrgyz economy and the well-being of the population.
