Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Adylbek Kasymaliev has signed a decree establishing the state enterprise “Kyrgyz Munai”, Sputnik Kyrgyzstan reports.

The company will operate under the State Property Management Agency and will be responsible for supplying petroleum products to the domestic market.

“The main objective of the new enterprise is to meet the country’s demand for fuel and lubricants,” the government stated.

The company will soon be registered with the Ministry of Justice. Oversight of the project’s implementation has been assigned to the Presidential Administration.

The government noted that establishing domestic oil refining capacity and a national oil company is expected to reduce Kyrgyzstan’s dependence on fuel imports.

It is also worth noting that a new oil refinery is scheduled to be launched in Batken Region by Independence Day. The plant, under construction in the village of Kok-Talaa in the Kadamjai District, is a joint Kyrgyz-Turkish project. The new refinery will produce AI-92 and AI-95 gasoline, diesel fuel, bitumen, gas, and lubricants.

Kyrgyzstan’s annual demand for gasoline exceeds 1 million tons and almost all volumes imported from Russia.
