Prospects for deepening cooperation in logistics and developing transport links between Kyrgyzstan and Russia were discussed by Kyrgyz Minister of Transport and Communications Talantbek Soltobaev and Russian Minister of Transport Alexander Nikitin, 24.kg reports.

The two ministers held talks as part of the International Transport and Logistics Forum in St. Petersburg.

The talks focused on Kyrgyzstan's accession to international agreements on road transport and road infrastructure development, including integration into the Asian Highway Network (AHN). This will allow the republic to improve connectivity with neighboring countries and expand its transit potential.

A key point of discussion was the intensification of work to launch a new international route: Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan-Turkmenbashi Port (Caspian Sea)-followed by sea to Russian ports. This corridor is seen as an alternative logistics route capable of reducing cargo delivery times and reducing dependence on traditional routes.

The parties also discussed preparations for the next meeting of the Joint Commission on International Automobile Transport, where they plan to approve a roadmap for removing border barriers and implementing digital access control systems.

Following the meeting, an agreement was reached to further strengthen Kyrgyz-Russian cooperation, develop sustainable transport corridors, and enhance the region's transit attractiveness. The parties confirmed their commitment to regular dialogue and exchange of experience in the digitalization of transport services.

Bilateral cooperation in the transport sector has a long-standing foundation: Kyrgyzstan and Russia have enjoyed a long-standing partnership within the EAEU and through bilateral agreements. However, growing trade turnover, changing global supply chains, and the need to diversify export routes have necessitated an updated agenda. The integration of the Kyrgyz transport system into the North-South and East-West international corridors, as well as the harmonization of the regulatory framework to simplify transit procedures, has become particularly pressing.
