The Ministry of Energy of Kyrgyzstan and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) have held a ceremony marking the completion of the CAS Operations Center - a key facility under the project “Development of a National Centralized AMI System,” 24.kg reports.
The event was attended by Kyrgyz Energy Minister Taalaibek Ibraev, South Korean Ambassador Kim Kwang-jae, KOICA Vice President Hong Seokhwa, and other officials.
Minister Ibraev emphasized the significance of the center, calling it a major step in the country’s energy sector digitalization: “With the support of our Korean partners, we are building a smarter and more efficient energy future for Kyrgyzstan.”
Ambassador Kim noted the importance of the project in the year marking the 33rd anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries: “Kyrgyzstan has great potential in energy, and Korea is proud to contribute its expertise and technology. We hope this project lays the foundation for data-driven energy policy and helps reduce electricity losses.”
Launched in 2023 with a $10.5 million budget, the KOICA project aims to enhance digitalization and energy efficiency. It includes the development of a centralized AMI system capable of managing up to 1.5 million smart meters nationwide. A total of 10,779 smart meters have been delivered, and training programs for center staff have been implemented.
KOICA Vice President Hong Seokhwa added: “This operations center is not only a technological achievement but also a symbol of trust between our governments and peoples.” The project is being implemented by a consortium including the Korea Energy Economics Institute and KT Corporation.
