Kazakhstan’s Transport Leap: Transit Volumes Rise by 6.6% in 2025

Kazakhstan has concluded a year of large-scale modernization of its transport and logistics framework. Total transit traffic increased by 6.6% in 2025, reaching nearly 37 million tons, according to premierminister.kz.

Railway and Maritime Strength

  • Railways: Total freight reached 320 million tons (+5.5%). Over the year, 4,400 km of tracks were repaired, new lines such as "Dostyk–Moyynty" were launched, and contracts were signed for 775 new locomotives.
  • Maritime Ports: Cargo throughput rose by 7% to 8 million tons. A standout performer was the Middle Corridor (TITR), which saw a surge in traffic of 36%.

Aviation and Global Connectivity

Kazakhstan’s aircraft fleet expanded to 109 units. By the end of 2025, the country had:

  • Restored and opened flights to 30 countries across 135 international routes.
  • Launched new direct services to Budapest, Shanghai, and Munich.
  • Achieved an ICAO aviation safety rating of 95.7%.
  • Initiated a 250-billion-tenge project for a new cargo-and-passenger airport at the "Khorgos–Eastern Gate" SEZ.

Road Infrastructure and Digitalization

In 2025, 13,000 km of roads were repaired. Notably, Kazakhstan became the first country to secure transit rights into the heart of inland China. Key advancements include:

  • Digital Monitoring: The implementation of the e-Joldar system and AI-driven road diagnostics.
  • Automation: Deployment of 73 automated weighing stations for trucks, featuring instant electronic fining.
  • Permit-Free Systems: Simplified transit regimes were established with Turkey, Iran, and Turkmenistan.
