Maulen Ashimbayev, Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan, has reaffirmed Tajikistan’s strategic importance to Kazakhstan, calling it an “important and reliable partner.” The statement was made during a meeting with Rustam Emomali, Chairman of the National Assembly of Tajikistan, who is currently in Astana on an official visit, reports Sputnik-Tajikistan.
During the talks, the parliamentary leaders discussed a broad range of bilateral issues, including political dialogue, economic cooperation, and cultural exchanges. Ashimbayev highlighted the high level of interstate relations, emphasizing that contacts between Kazakhstan and Tajikistan are actively developing across all levels.
“Our main task is to support the effective implementation of all agreements reached at the level of heads of state,” said the Chairman of Kazakhstan’s Senate, stressing the need for concrete actions to translate political decisions into practical outcomes.
Particular attention during the meeting was given to pressing environmental challenges, including sustainable water management and joint efforts within the framework of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea. Both sides confirmed their readiness to coordinate actions in addressing transboundary environmental issues — a matter of critical importance for Central Asian countries.
For his part, Rustam Emomali expressed interest in expanding inter-parliamentary cooperation and deepening regional collaboration. He emphasized that the visit aims to strengthen mutual trust and foster constructive dialogue on key areas such as trade, transport, energy, and humanitarian cooperation.
The official visit is seen as a significant step toward enhancing the strategic partnership between the two nations and underscores Kazakhstan’s and Tajikistan’s shared commitment to regional stability, cooperation, and sustainable development.
