Experts from RIA Novosti have conducted a study showing that Kazakhstan, Russia, and Belarus lead the European ranking for natural gas affordability for households in 2024, the agency reports.
To assess affordability, the analysts calculated how much natural gas residents of various European countries could purchase using their average monthly salary.
Kazakhstan ranked first in the study. Despite relatively modest wages, Kazakh residents can buy over 10,000 cubic meters of natural gas per month—thanks to the country’s extremely low gas prices. Russia took second place, where citizens can afford 9,600 cubic meters of gas on average wages. Belarus ranked third, with more than 4,000 cubic meters of gas accessible to the average household.
At the other end of the scale was Moldova, where residents can afford only 739 cubic meters of natural gas with an average salary—placing it at the bottom of the ranking.
