Kazakhstan is consolidating its role as a key player in the European oil market. According to Eurostat, Kazakhstan ranked as the third-largest oil supplier to the European Union in 2024, Ritmeurasia.ru reports.
Kazakhstan’s share of EU oil imports reached 11.5%, placing the country alongside leading exporters such as Norway and the United States. The trend is particularly notable in Germany.
According to Deutsche Welle (DW), Kazakhstan’s share of Germany’s oil imports was even higher than the EU average, reaching 13.5%. Analysts expect this figure to rise significantly in 2025.
Last month, Kazakhstan’s Energy Minister Yerlan Akkenzhenov announced plans to increase oil shipments to Germany via the Druzhba pipeline.
However, in an interview with Deutsche Welle, the head of Kazakhstan’s Oil and Gas Council also highlighted the risks associated with hydrocarbon transportation, underscoring the need for strategic planning in the sector.
