Kazakhstan is one of the largest oil and gas producers in the Eurasian region. However, the industry structure in the country remains predominantly raw materials, with an emphasis on exploration and production.
In this regard, the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan in October 2024 developed a Roadmap for the development of the petrochemical industry for 2024-2030, the Government of Kazakhstan said in a statement.
The document includes 6 key areas and 34 measures aimed at stimulating the industry, including the implementation of 6 large investment projects worth about $ 15 billion.
The goal of the measures taken, as stated by the Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan Erlan Akkenzhenov, is to reorient the oil and gas sector of Kazakhstan from a raw materials model to the production of products with high added value.
The Minister reported that by the end of 2024, 540 thousand tons of petrochemical products were produced, which is 150.5% of the 2023 level. The plan for the current year is 550 thousand tons. In January-March 2025, 155.6 thousand tons of products were produced with a plan of 113.4 thousand tons, which is 137% of the planned volume.
