Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Energy plans to import more than 1.5 million tons of petroleum products from Russia this year, TASS reports.

In November 2024, Russia and Kazakhstan agreed to resume the intergovernmental agreement on trade and economic cooperation in the supply of oil and petroleum products. A corresponding protocol was signed, prompting Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Energy to draft a law for its ratification. The draft specifies the volume and types of petroleum products to be imported.

“According to the indicative balance for 2025, imports will include 285,000 tons of gasoline, 300,000 tons of aviation fuel, 450,000 tons of diesel fuel, and 500,000 tons of bitumen during peak consumption periods,” the draft law states.

The drafters note that ratifying the protocol will enable proactive risk management, ensure the reliable operation of enterprises, and support stable development of the energy sector.

The Ministry of Energy emphasized that increasing imports of petroleum products from Russia is aimed at strengthening Kazakhstan’s energy security and ensuring stable domestic supply.
