Kazakhstan’s Vice Minister of Energy, Bakytzhan Ilyas, announced ongoing negotiations with Chinese and South Korean energy companies for the construction of three new thermal power plants, according to Sputnik Kazakhstan.

The proposed facilities are planned for the cities of Kokshetau, Semey, and Ust-Kamenogorsk.

"Talks are underway with other potential developers - energy companies," Ilyas said, noting that several cooperation options with investors from China and South Korea are currently being explored.

Earlier, on May 30, First Deputy Prime Minister Roman Sklyar reported financing difficulties with the project, particularly regarding interest rate subsidies for equipment. Initially, the thermal power plants were to be built with the participation of Russian contractors. However, Kazakhstan is now considering alternative implementation options.
