Kazakhstan has officially announced data on its current natural resource reserves and plans for their replenishment. Acting Chairman of the Geology Committee Kanat Yerubayev announced this information at a briefing at the Central Communications Service, Zakon.kz reports.
Commenting on resource depletion, Yerubayev noted that hydrocarbon reserves are not static due to ongoing geological exploration. However, he provided current estimates:
- Proven reserves: More than 4 billion tons of oil are registered with the state.
- Production rate: Kazakhstan currently produces approximately 90 million tons of oil per year.
- Lifespan: At current rates, proven reserves will last approximately 50 years.
The situation with precious metals is as follows:
- Gold reserves: Approximately 2,300 tons are registered with the state.
- Lifespan: Resources will last for approximately 37 years at current production rates.
The speaker emphasized that the question of "final depletion" is not entirely accurate, as the state is continuously conducting geological exploration to expand the resource base. It was previously announced that approximately 240 billion tenge ($485 million) is planned to be allocated to state geological exploration in the near future, which should ensure the growth of new deposits.
