Kazakhstan Approves Rules for Inventorying Strategic Uranium Sites

ASTANA - The Chairman of the Atomic Energy Agency, by order dated March 19, 2026, approved the Rules for Maintaining the List of Strategic Uranium Subsoil Areas, Zakon.kz reports.

The list includes areas containing uranium and rare earth-uranium deposits. For each site, the following information is provided: name, location area, and geographic coordinates of the deposit center. If the area is located in multiple areas, the coordinates of the deposit center are recorded.

The list is maintained by the competent authority for uranium mining based on data from the unified cadastre of the state subsoil fund. If there are changes to the cadastre, the authorized subsoil study agency is required to submit the relevant information within five business days to update the list.

No later than December 1st of each year, the competent authority requests information to verify the current status of the data and updates the list in agreement with the authorized agency.

The order comes into force on April 17, 2026, and applies to legal relationships arising from February 26, 2026.
