Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov and Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held the sixth meeting of the Supreme Interstate Council in Bishkek on August 21, where they discussed key areas of bilateral cooperation. The visit, part of a two-day trip by President Tokayev, was covered on the official website of the Kyrgyz President.

At the summit, the leaders emphasized the fraternal nature of their relations and expressed readiness to deepen strategic partnership. Tokayev stated that Kyrgyzstan is not only a close neighbor but a "brotherly nation" with shared strategic interests in economy, security, and humanitarian cooperation. Japarov expressed gratitude for Kazakhstan’s support following the recent power plant accident in Bishkek and pledged solidarity in response to severe floods affecting several regions of Kazakhstan.

The agenda focused on trade, investment, transport corridors, water and energy issues, and cultural cooperation. The two sides agreed to modernize border crossing points to boost trade volume and ease the movement of people, as well as to expand collaboration in digitalization, personal data protection, and construction.

Following the talks, the presidents signed a series of agreements to solidify their alliance, including:

  • A Treaty on Deepening and Expanding Alliance Relations;
  • A Decision of the Interstate Council;
  • A Protocol amending the intergovernmental agreement on border checkpoints;
  • An Agreement on the Promotion and Mutual Protection of Investments;
  • A Joint Action Plan (roadmap) for the development of automobile border checkpoints;
  • Memoranda of Understanding on cooperation in digitalization and construction.

These documents establish a strong foundation for long-term strategic cooperation between Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.
