Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov held a meeting in Astana with Peter Costello, President of Shell's Exploration and Production Division, Kazinform reports.
The discussion focused on the implementation of joint oil and gas projects and the prospects for expanding cooperation. The meeting was also attended by Ali Al-Janabi, Shell's Senior Vice President and Country Chair in Kazakhstan, and Suzanne Coughan, Vice President for Exploration in Core Countries and Namibia.
Shell is engaged in several major energy initiatives in Kazakhstan, including participation in the CPC pipeline, the North Caspian and Karachaganak projects, the modernization of the Pavlodar Oil Chemistry Refinery (PNHZ) for the production of winter diesel fuel, as well as geological exploration and scientific research.
Particular attention was given to the construction of a gas processing plant with a capacity of 4 billion cubic meters per year at the Karachaganak field. Both sides emphasized the importance of expediting the project’s implementation.
The development of the Kashagan field was also on the agenda. Discussions included plans to accelerate Phases 2A and 2B, which involve the construction of a gas processing plant with a capacity of 2.5 billion cubic meters per year and the development of new sites.
Prime Minister Bektenov reaffirmed the Kazakh government’s commitment to further mutually beneficial cooperation.
Earlier, Prime Minister Bektenov also met with Chevron’s Chairman and CEO Michael Wirth to discuss collaboration in oil production and refining.
