As of May 2025, inflation in Kazakhstan reached 10.7% - the highest rate among all member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), Nur.kz reports.

Throughout 2024, Kazakhstan consistently topped the EAEU inflation rankings for goods and services. While the dynamics shifted briefly, with Russia taking the lead earlier this year, the latest data from the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) shows that the situation has reverted to its previous trend.

By the end of April, Kazakhstan’s annual inflation rate stood at 10.7%, the highest in the EAEU. On average, inflation across the union reached 9.9% over the same period.

Russia, which held the top spot in April, dropped to second place with 10.2%. Kyrgyzstan ranked third at 7.1%, followed by Belarus (6.5%) and Armenia (3.2%).

What’s Driving Inflation Across the EAEU?

Kazakhstan leads the EAEU in service sector inflation, with the cost of paid services rising by 15.7% over the year - compared to the union’s average of 12.4%. A similar trend is seen in non-food goods, which became 8.9% more expensive in Kazakhstan, while the EAEU average increase was 5.6%.

The only exception to the pattern was food prices, where Russia took the lead with a 12.7% increase, while food prices in Kazakhstan rose by 8.5%. Across the EAEU, food inflation averaged 11.7%.

Experts note that inflation in Kazakhstan may also be fueled by fluctuations in the currency market. Forecasts suggest that inflation could reach as high as 11.8% within the next year.
