President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon met in Dushanbe with Qu Dongyu, Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Asiaplus.tj reports.
According to the presidential press service, the meeting focused on ongoing and future projects in agriculture, sustainable land use, and food security.
A key topic of the discussion was expanding cooperation in critical areas - from efficient water and land resource management to the adoption of modern agricultural technologies.
FAO expressed readiness to support Tajikistan’s national programs aimed at developing the agri-food system, enhancing climate resilience, and improving food sustainability. Special attention was given to the digitalization of the sector, seed production, pest control, and scientific research.
The two sides also discussed the UN Decade of Family Farming (running through 2028) and the extension of the Sustainable Agriculture Program until 2030.
President Rahmon thanked FAO for including the Gissar sheep and Taifi pink grape in the GIAHS list - Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems.
The idea of establishing a Tajik corner at FAO headquarters was also raised during the talks.
