The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) and ORTA ASYA Investment Holding have announced the launch of a strategic partnership to implement major hydropower projects in Kyrgyzstan, reports Akchabar.kg.

The agreement includes joint preparation of a feasibility study for the Suusamyr-Kokomeren Hydropower Cascade, a project financed by the EDB.

In addition, ORTA ASYA Investment Holding is implementing both the Suusamyr-Kokomeren and Kazarman Hydropower Cascades under an investment agreement with Kyrgyzstan’s Ministry of Energy. Total investment in these projects exceeds $6 billion.

Experts estimate that commissioning the new power plants will increase Kyrgyzstan’s installed electricity generation capacity by more than 50%. This will not only meet the country’s rapidly growing domestic demand but also significantly expand electricity exports to neighboring countries.

The EDB is among the first international financial institutions to support ORTA ASYA’s energy initiatives. The Suusamyr-Kokomeren Cascade is a flagship component of the Bank’s mega-project — the Central Asian Water and Energy Complex — underscoring its strategic importance for regional energy security and sustainable development.
