Oguljahan Atabaeva, Vice President of the Charitable Foundation for Children in Need and daughter of Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, met with Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng during a working visit to China, according to Turkmenportal, citing Yicai.com.
Mayor Gong highlighted the strong historical ties between China and Turkmenistan, emphasizing that cooperation in economy, trade, and culture has been steadily growing. He expressed interest in deepening collaboration under the Belt and Road Initiative, particularly in tourism, investment, and cultural exchange.
Gong Zheng spoke about Shanghai’s “child-friendly city” initiative and proposed expanding joint efforts in child healthcare, social support, and volunteer activities.
Atabaeva praised the stable development of Turkmen-Chinese relations and described Shanghai as a “dynamic city full of energy” whose achievements “inspire admiration.” She emphasized that the foundation she leads prioritizes children’s health, education, and holistic development, expressing confidence that closer bilateral ties will create new opportunities for the future generations of both countries.
