The Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) has resumed receiving oil from shippers and loading it through the Novorossiysk marine terminal, the Kazakh Ministry of Energy announced on July 27, Forbes.kz reports.
Two single-point moorings (SPMs) are already loading the tankers SEAMAJESTY and MILOS, which are receiving Tengizchevroil oil. The resumption of operations allows Kazakh oil companies to once again supply crude to the pipeline system and export through the terminal. However, further operations of the CPC will depend on an assessment of the situation and compliance with safety requirements.
The resumption of CPC operations is critical for Kazakhstan, as the bulk of Kazakhstan's oil exports pass through this route.
Terminal downtime can quickly lead to oil accumulation at the fields, reduced production, and a decline in export revenues. This factor is particularly sensitive for the Tengiz field, one of the key sources of oil production and government revenue for Kazakhstan.
The restoration of shipments reduces the immediate risks to the oil sector and the budget, but the continued need to address security requirements highlights the route's vulnerability.
The situation simultaneously reinforces Kazakhstan's strategic need to diversify export routes, including alternative routes through the Caspian Sea and other transport corridors.
