BISHKEK - The construction sector was the main driver of Kyrgyzstan's economic growth in January–May 2026, providing the largest contribution to the country's gross domestic product, which reached 12.2%. This data was cited by the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB), Akchabar.kg reports.

According to the bank's estimates, construction accounted for 3.6 percentage points of overall economic growth. Activity in the sector was supported by the implementation of the state housing program "My Home," the construction of social facilities, and the launch of new small hydroelectric power plants.

Overall, Kyrgyzstan's economy demonstrated steady expansion at the beginning of the year, driven by a combination of investment activity, domestic consumption, and production growth. In addition to construction, the industrial sector made a significant contribution to GDP growth. One of the key drivers was a 12.4% increase in the production of basic metals, which supported industrial production and the country's export potential.

The trade and services sector remained an additional source of growth. Against the backdrop of rising household incomes, trade volume increased by 10.4%, and real wages rose by 9.9%, stimulating domestic demand – one of the main drivers of economic activity.

EDB experts note that investment and consumer activity will remain the main pillars of the economy in the coming months. For the full year 2026, the bank forecasts Kyrgyzstan's GDP growth at 10.2%, which will allow the country to maintain one of the highest economic growth rates in the region.
