Construction has started on a new plant in Kyrgyzstan by the British company United Concrete Canvas, which will produce innovative concrete canvas material. The product has already proven effective in the construction and restoration of irrigation canals, acting as a “protective shield” for soil and water, Kaktus.media reports.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by the British Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan, Nicholas Bowler, and Bakyt Torobaev, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry.
Until now, the material was supplied from the company’s main plant in Wales. The new plant will be the second in the world and will allow Kyrgyzstan to meet domestic demand independently. Construction is expected to be completed by early 2027, after which the product will also be exported to other Central Asian markets.
Ambassador Bowler commented: “There is no better example of friendship between the United Kingdom and Kyrgyzstan than the Concrete Canvas project. This plant will bring advanced British technology to the heart of Central Asia. Producing innovative materials for restoring irrigation canals will support agricultural development and land preservation in the country.”
The new technology promises a revolution in water management: concrete canvas reduces water loss and can maintain its properties for up to 100 years. For the arid regions of Central Asia, it represents not just an innovation but a step toward a sustainable future.
