Security and border protection issues between Afghanistan and Tajikistan are resolved on the basis of intergovernmental and international agreements. This was stated by the official representative of the Taliban government Zabihullah Mujahid, TOLOnews reports.

"Security and border issues between the two countries are resolved in accordance with intergovernmental agreements. Afghanistan maintains good relations with border guards on the other side, cooperation in preventing smuggling in certain areas has been and continues," he said.

Mujahid described relations with Tajikistan as positive, emphasizing that there are no problems between the two countries. He added that the Afghan authorities are striving to build mutual trust with neighboring countries.

"We assure that no harm will be caused to Tajikistan or any other country from Afghan soil," the Taliban spokesman once again stated.

Mujahid has previously spoken about improving relations with Tajikistan, as well as the absence of threats from Afghanistan to the countries of the region.

Official Dushanbe does not publicly comment on such statements.

Tajikistan remains the only country in Central Asia that does not maintain diplomatic relations with the interim Afghan government. Dushanbe still considers Afghanistan a source of threats of expansion of terrorism, drugs and radical Islamism. Although Tajik experts do not rule out that the possibility of rapprochement with the Taliban is being considered by the authorities of the republic.

At the same time, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and, to a lesser extent, Kyrgyzstan are increasing trade and economic cooperation with the Taliban, implementing joint transport and logistics projects with them.

In 2023, the Taliban was removed from the list of terrorist organizations in Kazakhstan, and in September 2024, the Prosecutor General's Office of Kyrgyzstan updated the register of banned organizations, excluding the Taliban from it. In mid-April, the ban on the movement's activities was suspended in Russia.

There are currently more than 20 diplomatic missions from different countries operating in Kabul, and the Taliban government has more than 40 political offices abroad. However, no country, including Afghanistan's neighbors, has yet officially recognized the so-called Islamic Emirate.
