The Adilet Party won a landslide victory in the elections to Kazakhstan's new unicameral parliament, the Kurultai, receiving 71.17% of the vote. These preliminary results were announced by Nurlan Abdirov, Chairman of the Central Election Commission, on August 24.
The elections took place on August 23 and were the first to the Kurultai since Kazakhstan's transition to a unicameral parliamentary system. 9.35 million citizens participated in the vote, with a turnout of 74.08%.
According to preliminary results, the other parties in the Kurultai include Auyl with 6.26%, Respublica with 5.56%, Ak Zhol with 5.21%, and the National Social Democratic Party with 5.11%. The People's Party of Kazakhstan and the Baitak Party failed to clear the 5% threshold.
Adilet's result signifies the formation of an extremely strong pro-presidential political force in the new parliament. International observers and analysts attribute the election outcome to the further consolidation of the political system around President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. Reuters notes that Adilet, created in 2026 with the participation of political figures close to the president, has effectively absorbed the former dominant party, Amanat.
At the same time, the very fact of holding the first elections to the new Kurultai has institutional significance. Kazakhstan is entering a new stage of political architecture, in which the unicameral parliament must become part of a renewed system of public administration. The key issue now will be not so much the distribution of mandates, but the ability of the new parliament to ensure genuine political representation while simultaneously supporting economic and administrative reforms.
